Times have changed, have they not?
And, falling in love was sung about without the exaltation of copulation:
It is no longer tolerable to the modern mind to even think those thoughts, let alone sing about them.
But, we had our lighter moments. I notice that there is no humor or silly moment allowed in modern popular music. People are so filled with rage and hate that they will not be made to laugh.
Ray Stevens sings this 1959 song first sung by the Coasters.
And strangely, the big band from the jazz era was still allowed on the hit parade. Ray Anthony's orchestra plays The Peter Gunn Suite in 1959, and the teenie boppers loved it. Not a chance this would happen today.
I leave you with a mia culpa.
We were at times a bit mad though. Certain nut case songs slipped through, and the kids went bonkers for them. The girls sitting in the back of the bus chomping on celery from a baggy, and a transistor radio to their ear, would sing right along like this song made sense:
While this was going on in 1959 I was totally distracted by the 1940s. I wanted music that was based in real skill and creativity, and this is the song that has to be the hall mark of the 40s, which was also called The Swing Era..... In The Mood performed by the Glenn Miller Band.
But, I am no the only one who still has the warm fuzzies for the 1950s.

I end with a comment on YouTube under the Glenn Miller video:
"Men dressed better, gentlemen were appreciated and things were just a lot slower. I think the information age has ripped us from the fundamentals that make people happy." Graham TaitGlenn Miller was dressed, in the photo, in a US Military uniform because he was on tour playing for US troops in Europe.
